BLACKROC is excited to be partnering with a Government Department searching for a Senior Communications Officer for a short-term contract.
About the Role:
You will be responsible for driving and delivering communication and marketing activity with a focus on the customer including communication planning, implementation, and evaluation; media management; issues management; marketing strategy development and campaign activity; corporate identity management; design and production of print and digital assets; sponsorship management and reporting; social media management and collaborative website governance.

You will be responsible for driving and delivering communication and marketing activity with a focus on the customer including communication planning, implementation, and evaluation; media management; issues management; marketing strategy development and campaign activity; corporate identity management; design and production of print and digital assets; sponsorship management and reporting; social media management and collaborative website governance.
Responsibilities:
- Work with business units to identify proactive opportunities to promote the work of the department
through media coverage and supporting social media content. - Liaise and build relationships with departmental officers, external organizations, and the media to identify and deliver media opportunities.
- Research, write, review and edit media releases, speeches, and associated materials.
- Manage media enquiries and produce timely responses.
- Communicate information about departmental programs to audiences in a clear and consistent manner in line with the strategic priorities of the department and targeted to key customer groups.
- Monitor media coverage and social media discussion to gauge industry and community attitudes related to small business, employment, and training that could impact the Queensland Government.
- Maintain current knowledge of the latest trends and best practices in the media industry.
- Participate in professional media networks within government and the broader media profession
About you:
- As the Senior Communication Officer, Media you will require the following technical capabilities to work effectively in the role:
- high-level written communication skills including the ability to prepare complex, sensitive material
- media writing skills for both traditional and digital channels ability to communicate with influence
- knowledge of the media industry with previous employment as a journalist considered highly desirable
- understanding of the use of social media to engage with customer groups ability to develop a media plan
